It is nearly half a century ago, Late Sir Padampat Singhania, the visionary founder of the J K Organization dreamt of an empowered India populace, through whom India would take its place as an equal in the comity of nations. According to him, empowerment pre-supposes education and knowledge. That then became the cornerstone of the Organization’s philosophy for discharging its social responsibility. The J K Cement Nimbahera Foundation (JKCNF) was born. Overtime, the involvement with education became stronger and deeper. Today, two decades later, it is associated with twelve educational institutions imparting education to nearly 14000 students at various levels of the learning curve.
The J K Cement Nimbahera Foundation now envisions the establishment of a world class University in Rajasthan benchmarked to international educational institutions. The Foundation constituted a think tank of eminent persons from the Industry, Science & Technology and academia to brain storm the directions of development of the proposed University and prepare its blue print.
The proposed University shall be engaged in R & D in the frontal areas and shall offer education through innovative course content, education methodology, learning process and dynamic academic governance for adapting itself to the constantly changing needs of the development sectors globally. R&D programmes will be pursued by the faculty along with scholars mostly in a twinning arrangement with the Industry. Education programmes will be offered by the University at undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral levels. The University shall have large number of academic programmes offered by various constituents of the Academic Departments, Schools and Centres of Studies which may include Applied and Basic Sciences, Engineering & Technology, Gastronomy and Hospitality, Textile & Fashion Design, Functional Geonomics, Biotechnology and Management Studies. Our areas of study will offer enough flexibility in the course curricula for building sound foundation of basic knowledge and pursuing variety of course disciplines in order to have complete education programme which is ultimately project/mission based. For the University campus, the plan for the Phase One is to initially begin with the School of Engineering and subsequently expand to cover many other branches of higher education.
The School of Engineering will impart globally contemporary engineering science curricula through top quality teaching faculty with an international reach and a state-of-the-art educational infrastructure to a student’s body with an aptitude for imbibing knowledge. On offer, would be a market determined blend of traditional (chemical and mechanical) and modern (computer science, electronic & communications, information technology, biotechnology) disciplines of engineering studies. The programmes at the School of Engineering will be at the Under-graduate, Post-graduate and Doctoral levels. Beginning with four engineering disciplines, the School will have an eventual student enrollment of about 1500 in six disciplines.
The Singhania Centre for Research shall mainly be involved in Research in the area of Biotechnology. Biotechnology is a collection of technologies that capitalize on the attributes of cells, such as their manufacturing capabilities and put biological molecules, such as DNA and protein to work for us. The Research programme at the Centre will have both basic and applied aspects. Basic research will focus on bioprocess technology, recombinant DNA technology, hybridoma technology and stem cell technology while applications will emphasise health care, agricultural production, food biotechnology, industrial and environmental applications, homeland defense and national security, DNA fingerprinting, biosafety and bioethics.
In the Second Phase, it is proposed to commence academic programmes and R & D activities in the subject areas of Functional Genomics to enhance the Biotechnology programme started in Phase One; besides this it is proposed to add programmes in Textile Engineering & Technology, Gastronomy and Hospitality and Management.
It is envisioned the University will grow in its stature by developing excellent infrastructure facilities, retaining well qualified faculty and research personnel, in turn attracting quality scholars & students and by forging academic links with best of the higher education Institutions in India and abroad. The University will build sustainable relationship with Civil Society, Corporate world and the Academia for global participation. There shall be a continuous interaction and dialogue maintained with the statutory authorities and other national and international bodies/organizations in preparing blue prints for various components of the Master plan of the University.
Collaborations
We need to build an infrastructure to distribute knowledge continuously and to create a community for learning and experience sharing. In that context, globalisation is not an abstract concept. It is a very real playing ground, which can promote fertile growth, or become a battlefield. Different people, different ways of doing things, different environments, different ethos and indeed different cultures need to mix and intermingle to create a better world for the human race.
Increasingly, educational institutions will need to network, rather than being isolated and located in one place. Our collaborations with partner Universities across the globe will strength our network concept and enrich the respective partners. This concept emphasizes a global outlook informed by local knowledge. Sharing that knowledge across the network will enrich the entire system.
