One of the most serene and placid places to relax is a lakeside. Rajasthan lakes also offer peace and quiet to their visitors. The picturesque lakes of Rajasthan, India are a treat to the eyes. There are number of beautiful and picturesque lakes in Rajasthan. Apart from the natural ones, there are also a number of man-made lakes in Rajasthan, serving as a drinking water supply. Given below is a list of some famous lakes in Rajasthan: Ana Sagar Lake Ajmer Ana Sagar Lake is a man-made lake situated in the city of Ajmer. It is named after the emperor Anaji Chauhan, who got it constructed during 1135 -1150 AD. Later on some additions were made to the lake by the Mughal emperors Jehangir (Daulat Bagh Gardens) and Shahjahan (Baradari, a marble pavilion) to enhance the beauty of the lake. Fateh Sagar Lake Udaipur Fateh Sagar Lake is another man-made lake, constructed by Maharana Jai Singh. Later on Maharana Fateh Singh got this lake reconstructed. So, the lake got named after him only. It is situated in Udaipur to the north of Lake Pichola. The scenery around Fateh Sagar Lake will surely capture your heart. The lake serves as a major source of drinking water for Udaipur. The lake also has three islands, one is called Nehru Park, the second has a solar observatory and the third one has a jet fountain. A boat ride to these islands is quite entertaining. Gadsisar Lake Jaisalmer Situated in Jaisalmer, Gadsisar Lake is the only source of water supply for the city. Built by Maharwal Garsisingh, this lake was intended to serve as a reservoir to conserve rainwater. The lake is worth seeing. On the banks of the river, are a number of small temples and cenotaphs. Also, if lucky, you can spot some amazing birds around this lake. Kailana Lake Jaisalmer Lake Kailana is situated approximately 11 km from Jaisalmer. The lake offers some beautiful scenery and a peaceful atmosphere. It is a famous picnic spot providing the visitors with some much needed quiet and tranquility. Lake Kailana is also quite known for its beautiful view of the sunset. Lake Pichola Udaipur Lake Pichola is surrounded by fascinating hills, offering a breathtaking view. Maharaja Udai Singh got this lake widened. Later on, Maharaja Jagjit Singh added two islands in the middle of the lake, now known as Jag Niwas (Lake Palace) and Jag Mandir. Lake Pichola also has a masonry dam known as the Badipol. At the east bank of the lake, stands the City Palace surrounded by an array of marble temples, mansions and palaces and a number of bathing ghats. Sardar Samand Lake Situated approximately 60 km from Jodhpur, is the beautiful Sardar Samand Lake. Maharaja Umaid Singh got this lake constructed in 1933. As you drive down to the lake, you might come across chinkaras, black bucks or even neelgais. Adding a further pleasure to the drive are the smiling inhabitants of the Bishnoi villages. Apart from the peaceful surroundings, the other attractions include a variety of migratory birds found around the lake. Also, worth visiting is the summer palace of Maharaja Umaid Singh, the Sardar Samand Lake Resort, with its sprawling grounds and gardens. |

| Kailana Lake |
| Located 11 kms off the Jaisalmer Road, Kailana Lake is a picturesque lake. It is an artificial lake on the Jaisalmer Road. Kailana Lake is amazingly beautiful lake, which is also an idyllic picnic spot. One can witness the spectacular sunsets and cherish the beauty of the place. |
