Bharti Tele-Ventures Ltd., India’s leading private telecom conglomerate today announced the completion of the amalgamation of Bharti Mobitel Limited, a company running the mobile service operations in Kolkata with Bharti Cellular Limited. Bharti Cellular Ltd., is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bharti Tele-Ventures and holds license for providing cellular mobile services in Delhi, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, U. P. (West), Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The merger petition was filed in October 2002 before the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi, which was approved in its final hearing in March 2003.
Bharti Cellular Limited had earlier acquired a 100 per cent stake of Spice Cell Ltd, in Kolkata. The deal was consummated on July 16, 2001. Bharti subsequently launched India’s largest mobile service brand, AirTel, in Kolkata, in December 2001. Since then Bharti has expanded the operations in Kolkata and today, it has over 200,000 customers.
Leveraging on Pan India benefits: AirTel offers unique benefits to customers in Kolkata as a result of its national presence. Customers in Kolkata receive the largest roaming network across the country as a result of AirTel’s Pan India presence in over 15 circles.
