Jal Mahal In Jaipur

The ruined palace, with internal garden court, sits in a heavily polluted and often dry lake. But it can be beautiful.

Jal Mahal of Jaipur is a pleasure palace built in the 18th century. Situated amidst the picturesque Mansagar Lake, the palace has the Nahargarh hills forming its backdrop. Jaipur Jal Mahal Palace is an architectural beauty and was meant to be used for the royal duck shooting parties. Developed as an enjoyment spot, it is entered through a causeway situated in the middle of Mansagar Lake. Jal Mahal of Jaipur, Rajasthan is a five-story palace, with the first four floors being submerged under water. The Nahargarh Fort situated nearby offers a splendid view of the lake as well as the palace. You can also get magnificent views of the Jal Mahal place of Jaipur from Mansagar Dam on the eastern side of the lake. The Mansagar Lake is also a bird watcher's paradise as it serves as the home of a variety of local as well as migratory birds. Opposite the palace are the cenotaphs of the royal family.

A Magic Amidst Waters
We still think of building castles in the air, they built it inside water, myriad years earlier. Amidst the shimmering green waters of Man Sagar Lake, this architectural prodigy poses as a gigantic iceberg, ready to knock another Titanic, off its pedestals. Built as a pleasure palace for the imperial family, the palace is known for its magnificent architecture and erudite design. During winter months one can see large number of migratory birds at the lake. Flanked by Nahargarh Hills on all sides, the palace was once used for regal duck shooting parties.

The Water-Colored Palace
The Jal Mahal, an intrinsic example of Indo-Mughal architecture, stands like a vigilante of peace in the serene and quiescent waters of Man Sagar lake. With first four floors inside water, the majestic palace stands tall with its top floor outside the water arena. One can enjoy the tranquil waters of the lake while sitting under the elaborately modeled and exquisitely carved balconies and arched roofs, thinking about the royal menus of the duck shooting parties. The maharajah Sawai Madho Singh used to invite royal dignitaries to this leisure palace, who usually rocked the ambiance with their adventure autobiographies. Words flied amidst the misty air carrying the aroma satiated with the chivalry of the Rajput kings. To the south of the lake, there are some alluring gardens and splendid examples of Rajput architectural style, waiting eagerly for the virgin footsteps of enthusiastic travelers. Rush to enjoy the out-of-the-world refreshing experience at the island palace, when cool breezes after kissing the waters, will rush to hug you.

Get Going
The palace and the museum is open for public viewing from 10.30 in the morning till 5.30 in the evening . You can catch a bus or hire a private cab from the main train station or roadways stand to reach the palace. However, Rajasthan State Transport also offers regular bus service that will drop you directly in front of the palace gateway.
